Discover the unleashed power of cannabinoids
Understanding Hemp Oil For Dogs
There is often confusion in distinguishing hemp oil for dogs (hemp seed oil) and cannabidiol (CBD), so our team here at Canis World is here to help you understand the distinction between the two.
- Hemp is referred to as Cannabis Sativa and marijuana as (Cannabis Indica) – these are two varieties of cannabis plants.
Canis World extracts cannabinoids from the hemp plant, not the marijuana plant.
- The primary cannabinoid extracted from hemp is CBD. Cannabinoids need to be emulsified in oil in order to absorb into the body.
There are some brands that use various different carrier oils from krill oil to MCT oil. Canis World specifically developed our product line to use hemp seed oil as the carrier oil.
- NOTE: There are brands that simply sell hemp oil for pets or hemp seed oil without any cannabinoids. This is why the industry can sometimes be referred to as “the Wild West,” as pet parents will often be misled by brands.
Canis World Organic CBD Oil For Pets
Canis World’s approach is utilizing a “whole plant” method. When we say “plant,” we are referring to the hemp plant, not the marijuana plant.
There are many supplemental benefits of hemp seed oil including an ideal 1:3 ratio of Omega-3 to Omega 6 fatty acids, two compounds vital for the health because they work synergistically in the body. Hemp oil also contains vitamin E and vitamin A. These vitamins serve as antioxidants that help the immune system. This immune system boost can be extended by using hemp oil for cats or hemp seed oil for dogs as a nutritional supplement!
Canis World is not just hemp seed oil, it’s broad spectrum hemp extract with cannabidiol (CBD).
Safety, Toxicity, and Pharmacokinetics of CBD on Canine Patients
Dr. Stephanie McGrath conducted a study published in 2016 on the safety, toxicity, and pharmacokinetics of CBD on canine patients. This study was conducted on healthy dogs.
The dogs were divided into 6 groups:
- 2 of the groups were administered CBD via transdermal cream (applied to the ears)
- 2 groups were administered CBD via capsules and
- 2 groups were administered CBD via tincture (CBD oil via a dropper)
For each delivery method, one group received 150mg daily and one group received 300mg daily (the dogs were Beagles approx. 20-25lbs). These are indeed high doses but this was a clinical study using higher dosing for dogs of this breed/size as the study was on safety, toxicity and delivery method.
The conclusion: Of the various delivery methods the CBD tincture (ie. CBD oil and dropper) had the highest and most stable bloodstream absorption rates.

The Canis World Mission
Beyond a pet brand
Before Canis World was a “company” we had a need for our personal dog, Christopher Robin. After speaking with various health professionals and researchers and not being satisfied with various petcare brands, we developed a product specifically for our dog’s health and wellbeing. After seeing the benefits in Christopher Robin, we realized that our proprietary blend of hemp oil could be useful for natural pain relief for dogs after surgery.
You can visit our gallery to see pictures of Christopher Robin’s journey. As they say “a picture is worth a thousand words” and you will then be very clear why we made Canis World a product to pay it forward to help benefit other pets. Canis World products are geared to allow pet owners to maintain control for precise dosing. The research above explains why we developed an oil product delivered via a dropper, but if you find treats are easier for your dog, we recommend you use Canis World’s hemp oil combined with a treat to create your own that gives you control over exact dosing.
